DISCORDANCE

A hybrid dance performance - live from London & New York - in full motion capture and VR

Dance meets cutting edge technology in this performance that combines live dancers, motion capture, VR technology, telematics and immersive theatre. DISCORDANCE features dancers in London and New York connected in real-time in the virtual space, co-present with participants in VR headsets and spectators in a proscenium theatre.

DISCORDANCE explores themes of multi-identities and the search for human connection. Follow the journey of a character through self-discovery, trying to fit in but realising that their otherness is what will help them connect with others.

It expands on the experience of a traditional dance performance by combining it with the interactive potential of immersive technologies. In this one-of-a-kind performance, audiences can choose their level of immersion and participation. In-person and remote audiences can coexist in the virtual environment and interact with the live dancers. Spectators can also join in the proscenium theatre and, remotely, on the livestream. Each format interweaves visuals from each virtual and physical location, making DISCORDANCE a truly unique hybrid experience.

How to experience DISCORDANCE?

A truly hybrid live performance

In-person in the theatre
Spectators will sit in the auditorium. One dancer is on stage while the other one joins remotely from New York. The virtual world is projected in the background.

In-person in VR - Limited to 4 participants
Audiences will be invited to use a VR headset provided to them on-site. They can experience the piece and interact with the live dancers directly in the virtual world. Active participation will be encouraged through actions in the world. Participants will not be asked to speak.

Remotely with a personal VR headset
Audiences who have access to their own VR headset can join the virtual world remotely and interact with the live dancers. A robust internet connection is needed. Active participation will be encouraged through actions in the world. Participants will not be asked to speak.

Remotely from any device with the livestream
Remote audiences can join from anywhere through the livestream. They will be able to see what is happening in the virtual world, as well as camera views from the live stage in London and in New York.
